Medarek zinc ointment effectively replaces the much-promoted Sudocrem by doctors and some influencers, but have you ever wondered about the composition of this cream?
We'll help you break it down in detail:
Composition of Sudocrem
INCI: aqua, paraffinum liquidum, zinc oxide, paraffin, lanolin, cera microcristallina, sorbitan sesquioleate, benzyl benzoate, cera alba, benzyl alcohol, linalyl acetate, propylene glycol, benzyl cinnamate, lavender oil, citric acid, BHA
Ingredients: water, paraffin oil, zinc oxide, paraffin, lanolin, microcrystalline wax, sorbitan sesquioleate, benzyl benzoate, beeswax, benzyl alcohol, linalyl acetate, propylene glycol, benzylcinnamate, lavender oil, citric acid, BHA.
So, looking at the composition of Sudocrem, we find that it contains several ingredients derived from petroleum products, such as paraffin oil, paraffin, microcrystalline wax and propylene glycol.
These substances are commonly used in cheap, but also overpriced, cosmetics as a cheap substitute for more valuable vegetable oils, which have health benefits but are financially disadvantageous for manufacturers.
It is important to note especially the last sentence - financially disadvantageous for the manufacturer! So it's not about you, it's about the corporation and their earnings - your health and skin condition is irrelevant!
With commercially promoted products, you will never find a quality ingredient in the ingredients, whether natural or synthetic, because these products are all about repeat sales and profit. The cheaper it is made, the more expensive it is sold.
Propylene glycol is used to moisten, dissolve and maintain the viscosity of the product.
Microcrystalline wax is a crystalline mineral wax that can alter the density of cosmetic products and is known for its comedogenic nature.
BHA (Butylhydroxyanisole), E320, produced from petroleum by-products, is used as a preservative and stabilizer in cosmetics.
It is noteworthy that BHA is banned in products for children, even though Sudocrem is primarily intended for young children. How come it's not banned then, right? I wonder how the powerful pharmaceutical lobby works that can afford such a scam.
- Sudocrem and the preservative citric acid, which is most likely produced from black mold. It is expensive to extract it directly from fruit and citric acid is used so often in the food industry that demand far outstrips supply. For this reason, it is usually produced using a specific species of the fungus Aspergillus niger, which causes a black mould on the surface of fruits such as grapes, lemons and apricots. Most products containing this preservative will not have food grade citric acid, but this mold. We keep an eye out for this, and ask our manufacturers how they get this preservative if it is in the product.
- Sorbitan sesquioleate is an emulsifier that allows the mixing of two or more immiscible phases such as oils and water.
- Lanolin, extracted from sheep's wool, is known for its strong moisturizing ability and protection of skin and clothing from moisture. Its composition and properties place it among the closest natural fats to human skin. Lanolin softens and softens the skin and helps with rough and cracked skin.
- Cera alba, a white beeswax obtained by bleaching yellow beeswax, plays a key role in cosmetics as an emulsifier and thickener. Its properties represent a significant protection of the skin from external influences, where it remains on the surface and forms a protective barrier. This layer promotes healing and regeneration of damaged skin while deeply nourishing and moisturizing it.Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, it reduces swelling and provides a healing and soothing effect, especially for minor injuries, inflammations or burns. It forms a water-resistant layer on the skin, which ensures skin protection and prevents further damage.
- Benzyl cinnamate, linalyl acetate and benzyl benzoate are naturally occurring components of essential oils that, together with lavender oil, contribute to the product's fragrance.
- Benzyl alcohol, an organic alcohol naturally occurring in fruits, tea, plants and resin, is used in cosmetics as a preservative and solvent with the ability to reduce product density. Thanks to its antibacterial, antiseptic and slightly anaesthetic nature, it prevents the growth of microorganisms, reduces itching and provides pain relief. It should be remembered that benzyl alcohol can cause an allergic reaction, similar to other fragrances. At the same time, it is slightly phototoxic and may contribute to pigmentation changes on the skin.
In addition to the Medarek brand, you will also find other brands of organic and natural cosmetics in our shop , where we have focused on the composition of the products and also the story of the manufacturer, and we stand behind each of these brands 100%. We have a few and they are definitely worth exploring.
We would like to highlight the strengths of Organic Essence or Odylique, where you will find the highest quality ingredients available on the market. When choosing, don't look at the price, but really at the quality and organic certification.

Who is Medarek?
It is a young family trying to live in harmony with nature. They are interested in health, beekeeping, mix their own cosmetics, like to take photos, brew their own beer and generally do many things their own way.
Lead developer - Lucie
... the driving force behind the whole family and the family "business" is Lucka, who has only limited knowledge about bees, but a greater understanding of the honey bee business.
Lucka graduated with a Master's degree in special education with a focus on speech therapy, surdopedics and specific learning disorders at Masaryk University. For five years she worked as a teacher in a speech therapy class in a kindergarten, but eventually fate took her in a completely different direction.
Some ask her if she regrets spending her time studying at college now that she's devoting her time to mixing ointments. However, she feels grateful to be her own boss (unless her son Vasik or daughter Helenka is in charge at home :)), and to be able to bring joy with her products.
It warms her heart to see that her zinc ointment helps little babies with skin problems, and she enjoys the idea of wedding guests enjoying the honey she has decorated at night.
Photographer - Standa
...he is not only the head of the family, but also a court photographer and a passionate beekeeper who is not only interested in bees and honey, but also makes his own homemade mead and beer. His genius idea was the popular wedding teddy bears :) .
Standa graduated from an industrial secondary school with a focus on mechanical engineering and after almost three years of working in the workshop he became a designer, where he spent the next 12 years. He left for work each workday with the hope that he would soon be able to stay home with his family.
And now his dream has finally come true! Standa is now probably the real driving force behind medarek.cz, where he takes care of operations, cooking, packing shipments and lovingly devotes himself to children. As a model husband, he doesn't shy away from the simple chores :).
In his spare time, he enjoys capturing nature, people, bees and sometimes his family on his camera. When he needs to stretch his stiff body, he happily reaches for his bike and heads out into the countryside.
