What is hickory wood?

Hickory wood is a type of hardwood originating from trees of the genus Carya, the walnut tree. It is widely known for its strength, density and unique flavor profile, making it a favorite for cooking, especially grilling and smoking meats.

Properties of hickory wood:

  1. Density and hardness: it is one of the hardest and densest woods, which means it burns for a long time and at a constant temperature.
  2. Flavour profile: imparts a distinctive, characteristic smoky flavour to the meat, which is often described as sweet, hearty and somewhat reminiscent of bacon.
  3. Availability: in North America, especially in the eastern United States, this tree is quite widespread, making it available and popular for culinary use.

Advantages of using hickory wood for grilling meat:

Hickory wood has a distinct smoky flavor that enhances the flavor of the meat. This is particularly suited to red meats such as beef and pork, which can tolerate stronger flavours without being overpowered.

What is Real Salt® smoked salt?

Natural crystal salt like Redmond's is much more than just sodium chloride: it consists of not just two, but more than 60 trace elements. These are the very natural elements that make up our bodies, and from which our life in the primeval ocean once arose.

Something to think about
