What is whole grain cereal
Whole grain means that the whole grain is preserved with all its properties.
- The outer layer of the grain is called the "bran" and contains protein, vitamin B and fibre.
- The inside of the cereal grain is called the 'endosperm' and is starchy and rich.
- The third component, the inner core, is called the "germ". The germ contains vitamins and essential fatty acids and antioxidants.
The fibre content is 12 g/100 g and the protein content is 14 g/100 g.
Why organic oatmeal
Organic oats are high in potassium, calcium and protein, supplemented with high levels of soluble fibre (proven to help lower cholesterol) and insoluble fibre (useful for healthy digestion).
It's also rich in B vitamins, B1, B2, inositol and the hard-to-get (and extremely heart-healthy) beta-glucan, so it's a way to get a healthy start to the day.
This oatmeal has an extremely low glycemic index. This means that they are slowly absorbed into the bloodstream, providing a longer and slower release of energy, helping to keep blood sugar levels stable and keeping you full for much longer than other breakfasts!
These properties make oats great for controlling your weight, or more specifically, your appetite.
What does rolled oats mean
Rolled means that the grain has been flattened by passing between two rollers. Nothing else is done to the grain, thus preserving all the natural properties of this exceptional plant. By rolling, we can eat the grains as they are, whereas whole grains would break our teeth.
Moreover, it cooks much faster: in 5 to 10 minutes the porridge is warm and creamy.
What is the difference between regular and jumbo oatmeal?
Rolled oatmeal, also known as regular oatmeal, is created by cooking and then rolling into flakes. The steaming process contributes to the stabilisation of oats by deactivating lipid hydrolyzing enzymes.
This keeps the oats fresh for longer while increasing the surface area, which allows for faster cooking. Oatmeal is by far the most popular form of oats and can be used for a variety of purposes.
It is cooked on the stove as porridge, made into overnight oats, used as an ingredient in pancakes, pastries, muesli, smoothies and more. Oatmeal is best cooked on the stovetop and usually takes 5-10 minutes to prepare.
Jumbo oats are simply parched and then rolled. No cutting to a smaller size is necessary. Enjoy it simply as a creamy porridge. To make overnight oatmeal, add chia seeds and almond flakes, cover with coconut milk and refrigerate overnight.
Try making your own granola using spices, nuts and seeds. Prepare oat and banana breakfast muffins.
Turtle and organic certification
As always, Turtle products are organic. Organic isn't perfect, but it's an important step in the right direction and definitely a must for any quality product. Organic farming is more respectful of our environment and biodiversity: other plants, insects, animals and our water resources.
You won't find pesticide residues in Turtle Rolled Oats, as is unfortunately often the case with conventional products.
Oats and gluten-free diet
Oats are naturally gluten-free. However, due to contact with other cereals (proximity to fields, same harvesting machines, storage in the same warehouses, etc.), a bag of oats often contains several grains of wheat, barley and rye.
This particular oatmeal is certified gluten-free, so it is also suitable for people with celiac disease or those who choose to avoid gluten.
Why did we choose Turtle brand from Belgium and not some Czech alternative?
Because the brand has its products certified organic, which, in today's chemical-centric agriculture, is important to promote. You don't want to eat grains full of pesticides and your grandmother can make it.
Unless the producer takes raw materials from organic growers that do not contain traces of herbicide fertilizers, there is no point in doing so. Local non-local, we only have one health.
We have not found a brand in the Czech Republic that is so strictly controlled and strives to ensure that all ingredients come from organic production. Plus, to have a good taste, texture and a choice of many types from granola to chips.
It's not just about producing locally, but producing well and well so that the result is worth it. If I settle for little or something inferior as part of some national or personal bias, so be it, but why, when I have a choice between organic and non-organic?
But judge for yourself, we like them very much! And the children who tasted it also...

100% ORGANIC
All our products are made from ingredients grown in organic farming. This type of agri-culture has less negative impact on the environment than conventional farming because it uses less chemical fertilisers and is less intrusive on the soil, fauna and flora.
Groundwater remains clean, bees do not pollinate chemically treated plants and you will not find any toxic substances in your breakfast. With organic certification, you know what you're eating.
Here are the main reasons why we choose organic farming:
- It preserves the quality of our soil.
- It protects our drinking water.
- Less pesticides and toxins in food.
- It preserves biodiversity and is better for wildlife.
- No genetically modified (GM) ingredients are allowed.
Turtle has been certified as an organic product by Certisys BE-BIO-001 from the beginning.
FAIR PRODUCTION
We are committed to buying raw materials in a fair and reasonable way.
PROXIMITA - we purchase raw materials from farms in the vicinity of our production facilities. There are long-term agreements and cooperation between us and our farmers.
FAIRNESS - Our raw materials are sourced in accordance with high social standards as set out in the BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), SA8000 (Social Accountability) and ILO (International Labor Organization) specifications.
All of our suppliers are members of Sedex and ensure fair living and working conditions for the farmers who grow our cocoa, sugar cane and other ingredients that we cannot grow on site.
HEALTHY AND NUTRITIOUS FOOD
Breakfast must provide you with nutrients and long-lasting energy to start the day well. Choosing the right combination of macronutrients is important to ensure that your brain and body get what they need to develop.
For example, choose breakfast foods that contain a mix of carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats and fibre. Carbohydrates give you energy right away and protein will give you a boost later.
ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT
Taste is an important aspect when we talk about food. Food is one of the greatest pleasures in life!
It is scientifically proven that the pleasure of eating has significant benefits for your health.
Enjoying food supports digestion, can help improve your relationship with food, can help overcome eating disorders and much more.
SUSTAINABLY PACKAGED
The main purpose of our packaging is to enable transport and preserve the freshness and taste of our cereals for as long as possible.
We are not perfect, but we are doing our best and intend to continue to improve our sustainability as new materials and technologies become available. Here is a description of what we are currently doing:
Our cardboard boxes are made from 80% recycled fibres and the outer packaging we use for transport is 100% recycled. Both are recyclable.
We are not here to advocate plastics, but we cannot avoid their use either. The plastic preserves the freshness of the food and keeps moisture and other microorganisms out of the contents. This protection significantly reduces food waste.
Plastic is recyclable, so throwing the empty bag in the appropriate bin will give it another life and reduce the amount of new plastic created.
