Recycling materials: choosing between cost and environmental impact

None of the commonly used packaging materials - plastic, aluminium or glass - is an ideal solution in terms of cost-effectiveness of recycling and environmental impact.

Recycling plastic is expensive and less efficient because the different types of plastic complicate the process, and plastic can only be recycled to a limited extent due to quality degradation. If it ends up in a landfill, it takes hundreds to thousands of years to decompose, releasing harmful chemicals and polluting the environment with microplastics.

Aluminium, on the other hand, is the most advantageous in terms of recycling, as it uses only 5% of the energy needed to produce new aluminium and can be recycled indefinitely without loss of quality.
