Konjac sponge - Pink clay
The Konjac sponge acts as a gentle exfoliator that removes dirt and dead skin parts in a very gentle way.
The Konjac sponge takes its name from a plant called Amorphophallus Konjac, the Konjac potato. It is a perennial plant native to Asia, known as Konnyaku in Japan and very often as Devil's Tongue in non-Asian countries. The konjac potato is grown as a food crop mainly in Japan and Korea, but wild varieties grow in Southeast Asia, China, Korea and Japan.
The Japanese have been consuming konjac for more than 1500 years and for more than a century konjac has been used in Japan as a remedy for sensitive skin. Originally, in the 6th century, it was cited as a medicine after its health effects were recognized. It is an all-natural food source. 97% of konjac mass is water, 3% is glucomannan polysaccharide and fibre.
The plant Amorphophallus konjac is alkaline. It contains water, protein, hydrocarbons, fat, sodium, potassium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, copper, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin D, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, niacin, fatty acids, folic acid and fibre - so it's no surprise that this plant has become such a popular food, but also a skincare product.
The Kohle brand blends pure Konjac to create deep cleaning sponges free of chemicals, dyes, additives and irritants. It is a 100% degradable product that is naturally alkaline and will leave your skin in perfect balance.
According to the manufacturer, each sponge is especially effective around the sensitive eye area for removing makeup. We recommend first removing mascara and eye shadow with a good quality makeup remover oil or balm, such as Terre Verdi Good Oils Cleansing Oil or ArganShea Multifunctional Balm, and then thoroughly cleanse with a cognac sponge.
Instructions for use
Simply soak the sponge under running water for a few seconds until it softens and turns into a smooth and soft mass. Can be used with cleanser, soap or alone. Gently massage your face or body in circular motions. After use, rinse thoroughly under warm running water, squeeze carefully (do not twist/wring) and leave to hang in a ventilated place to prevent it from drying out.
Proper care will extend the life of the sponge to last you up to 3 months. Once you notice a gradual decomposition of the sponge after about 2 months of use, that's right, it's meant to be. That's how you know a real Konjac sponge. If it hasn't started to break down, it would mean that it is a synthetic product.
