The keto, ketogenic or also ketogenic diet is based on restricting carbohydrate intake. Due to the lack of carbohydrates, the body goes into a state called ketosis on the keto diet, where the body creates energy from fat, which activates faster weight loss. In the keto diet, carbohydrates should be limited as much as possible. Intake sugars is only allowed in really small amounts, not to exceed 40 g per day. On this diet, it is recommended to eat 5 smaller meals a day. Fully functional ketosis then occurs after 2-3 days.
