Indian gastronomy: tradition, history and the art of serving
The gastronomy of the Indian subcontinent is deeply rooted in thousands of years of history, religious customs and cultural diversity. Traditional cuisine draws inspiration from regional ingredients, with spices such as turmeric, cardamom, cumin and cinnamon playing a key role. The diet is often vegetarian, mainly due to the influence of Hinduism and Buddhism, but regional cuisines also include meat dishes, for example in Muslim communities.
Serving food in India is not only about taste, but also about symbolism and rituals. Traditionally, dishes are served on banana leaves or metal bowls called thalis, where food is arranged in small bowls with an emphasis on balanced flavours - sweet, salty, sour and spicy. Sharing a meal is a symbol of hospitality, and in many households the custom of eating with the hands is still observed, which is meant to bring people closer together over their food.
The history of Indian gastronomy is also a history of trade routes and cultural exchange. Through the Silk Road, and thanks to the influence of the Mughal Empire and the colonial era, new ingredients such as potatoes, tomatoes and chillies were introduced to Indian cuisine. This blend of traditions and influences has created a unique cuisine that is now one of the most respected in the world.

How did it all start?
The beginnings of a family business
The Andringa family started their business in the 1960s in Leeuwarden, selling cheese.
In 1983, however, Frans Andringa changed the direction of the company and switched to organic products, inspired by macrobiotic cuisine and organic farming.
He focused on research into organic production and launched a genuine organic cheese in Germany, where it quickly became a success.
He soon expanded the range to include other organic products such as jams, honey and peanut butter.
Pioneers in organic food
They pioneered the first processed organic products at German trade fairs and were a great success.
In 1985, they launched their Yakso brand, which offered organic products for the preparation of Asian and vegetarian dishes.
In 1989, growing demand necessitated a move to larger premises in Friesland, where they could expand production and output.
Yakso development
The road to healthy eating and eco-innovation
The Yakso brand began to develop significantly after 1985 with the aim of providing quality and healthy food. In response to the growing demand for organic and natural products, it has focused on organic farming and working with local farmers, which has promoted sustainable practices and strengthened the community economy.
With its emphasis on innovation and quality, Yakso has become the market leader in Asian food in Europe, with an expanded range that includes sauces and noodles. In recent years, it has also been committed to sustainability and social responsibility, as confirmed by certifications such as SKAL and GFSI.
In this way, Yakso has developed into a recognised brand synonymous with healthy and sustainable eating.
Yakso's main idea is to provide quality and healthy food that promotes sustainability and organic farming.
