What is coco glucoside
Coco Glucoside is non-ionic surfactantwhich can be used as a foaming agent, conditioner or emulsifier. It is derived from renewable raw materials such as coconut oil and fruit sugars and is completely biodegradable.
It is from the same group of "green" surfactants as Decyl Glucoside and Lauryl Glucoside. Contains no diethanolamides, lauryl sulfates, ether sulfates, parabens or formaldehydes.
Compared to cheaper and often more aggressive alternatives such as anionic surfactants (such as sodium lauryl sulfate - SLS), it has several advantages that explain its higher price in products:
- Biodegradability: Coco-glucoside is fully biodegradable, making it environmentally friendly. Cheaper surfactants can be less environmentally friendly and their production often involves synthetic substances or palm oil, which has a problematic environmental impact.
- Skin-friendly: Coco-glucoside is extremely gentle, does not irritate even sensitive skin and is safe for all skin types, including children's and sensitive skin. In contrast, surfactants such as SLS can cause skin irritation and dryness.
- Improved foaminess and texture: coco-glucoside creates a stable foam, a desirable property in natural products, while improving product texture and consistency without the need to add artificial foaming agents.
- Natural Ingredients: It is made from coconut oil and glucose, making it suitable for natural and organic certified products like Odylique. Cheaper alternatives often contain synthetic substances or petroleum derivatives.
The use of more expensive ingredients such as coco-glucoside ensures gentleness, environmental sustainability and quality, which are the reasons why products like Odylique shower gels cost more than conventional cosmetic alternatives.

*Odylique uses organic sugar cane alcohol as part of the process of extracting biodynamic herbs in its products. This alcohol is food grade and fermented from organic sugar cane. It plays a key role in extracting and preserving the beneficial properties of herbs without the need for synthetic preservatives.
For some products, such as Rose Water Toner, they state that no additional alcohol is added. Alcohol is present only in small amounts as a residue after the herbal tinctures used in the formulations, ensuring that the products remain gentle on the skin while taking advantage of the natural preservative and extraction properties of sugar cane alcohol

**Glycerin without palm oil is used for several reasons, mainly related to environmental and ethical concerns. Conventional glycerin is often produced from palm oil, which is associated with tropical deforestation, loss of biodiversity and social problems in countries where oil palm is grown (especially in South East Asia).
By replacing glycerin made from palm oil with vegetable glycerin from other sources, such as coconut oil, companies are trying to minimise their environmental impact and encourage more sustainable agricultural practices. In addition, consumers interested in ethical purchasing and sustainability prefer palm oil-free products.
The use of glycerin from non-palm sources thus helps to protect the environment and promotes sustainability in the cosmetics industry.

The Odylique brand - the name is derived from the meaning "the power of nature" - was born in 2003 and was originally called Essential Care. The whole story began in the 1980s when the main founder, Margaret, started making natural skincare products. Conventional products did not agree with her allergic and sensitive skin at all. She felt there had to be a healthier and more effective way to care for her skin than using petroleum-based ingredients and artificial ingredients. She received her training in herbal medicine and aromatherapy to begin creating truly effective products based only on organic herbs, plant oils and natural active ingredients that would be compatible with the most sensitive skin. In the 1980s she was one of, if not the first, of the early pioneers of organic and natural cosmetics in the UK. In 2003, she officially founded The Essential Care with her husband and daughter, which was renamed Odylique in later years. Since the beginning, its products have won awards in prestigious competitions in the UK, and the product portfolio has grown to include decorative cosmetics for the most sensitive users.
