Commonly produced detergents, cleaning products and other pharmaceuticals pollute our environment. In Germany alone, 200,000 tonnes of chemicals from detergents and cleaning products classified as toxic are released into wastewater every year.

Domestic waters and oceans suffer from high loads of conventional constituents that are often difficult to degrade (e.g. preservatives, synthetic fragrances, enzymes or chlorine bleach) because our wastewater treatment plants cannot filter out or degrade all the questionable constituents. Some components thus remain in nature for many years or decades (!).

This is harmful to our water bodies and their inhabitants: under certain circumstances, eutrophication of water bodies can even lead to the death of plants and animals.

In addition, conventional products impose significant costs on the treatment of our wastewater because synthetic fragrances and foams can only be removed from wastewater in laborious processes.

In our eco-friendly detergents, we therefore consistently avoid substances that we classify as harmful to our waters. Therefore, you will not find phosphonates, chlorine, preservatives, optical brighteners, antibacterial ingredients, antiperspirants and synthetic fragrances.

To further reduce our impact on water bodies, all of our wastewater is treated in our own neutralization facility before being sent to the local wastewater treatment plant.

AlmaWin: for clean water at your fingertips

Did you know that many commercial detergents contain plastic compounds? Because they are mostly in liquid form (and not so clearly visible microplastics), we often don't realise that we are discharging tonnes of dissolved polymers (liquid plastics) into our wastewater with conventional detergents.

In 2019, the renowned German consumer magazine Ökotest revealed just how prevalent plastics are in laundry detergents: microplastics or liquid plastic compounds were found in a full 22 out of 26 heavy-duty laundry detergents tested!

Not in ours, of course. While these do not have a significant impact on work performance, plastics can accumulate in rivers, lakes and oceans as well as in drinking water, damaging our environment for years.

At AlmaWin we have always avoided any form of plastic in our products. You have our word that we will continue not to use microplastics or liquid polymers.

AlmaWin: for less plastic in our oceans

Many common detergents are petroleum-based. But it is not only the transport of oil from the Middle East that is energy intensive: the extraction and processing of oil in wells also releases significant amounts of associated methane, propane and butane gases, which are extremely damaging to the climate.

Since our foundation in 1993, we have been using only natural surfactants based on vegetable oils and sugar. We hope that this will make our detergents have a smaller ecological footprint than conventional products.

We also ensure that no unnecessary emissions are generated during production. Since 2010, we have been generating using certified green electricity, which is mainly produced from hydroelectricity.

To ensure that not only your laundry stays clean, but also our environment stays clean, we have also been consistently reducing emissions for several years.

Climate protection at AlmaWin also includes innovative packaging. By making the bodies of our PE and PET bottles and some of the caps from 100% recycled plastic, we save a significant amount of new plastic and its main ingredient, oil.

Our labels with vegetable oil-based inks, free of mineral oils, and our new grass-based packaging, which is much less energy-intensive to produce than wood fibre paper, also reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, we have saved more than 250,000 kg of new plastic since 2018.

This is equivalent to about 300 million plastic straws or about 12 million 500 ml PET beverage bottles. That's quite a lot, don't you think?

And what is also important: because we only sell concentrates, we get a lot of strength in a small package. This saves a lot of resources and there are fewer emissions during transport and storage. All this significantly reduces our ecological footprint!

AlmaWin: a win for the climate!

Since 2015, we have been one of the first in the industry to use PE and PET bottles made from recycled plastic. Why? Because by doing so, we don't need any virgin plastic, thus saving heaps of oil (the main raw material used to make new plastic bottles).

The recycled plastic that eventually becomes our bottles comes from the household recycling system in Germany. This means that your old yoghurt cup (or old AlmaWin bottle) can become your new AlmaWin bottle! And another, because plastic can (in principle) be recycled indefinitely, just like glass.

To protect our resources, we also offer eco-friendly packaging and refill bags that save up to 80% of new plastic. With your help, we could already save more than 256,000 kg of new plastic - which means less oil, less water, less energy and fewer emissions.

As all our products are highly concentrated, we need fewer resources to manufacture, store and transport them. And we also save garbage.

With our bulk canisters for self-filling, we support and promote the idea of unpackaged stores. For this purpose, we offer a range of products in canisters that can be cleaned and reused.
