High blood sugar is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes (1).
Coriander seeds, extract and oils can help lower blood sugar levels. In fact, people who have low blood sugar or are taking medication for diabetes should treat coriander with caution as it is very effective in lowering blood sugar.
Animal studies suggest that coriander seeds lower blood sugar by promoting the activity of enzymes that help remove sugar from the blood (2).
A study in rats with obesity and high blood sugar found that a single dose (9.1 mg per 454 g body weight or 20 mg per kg) of coriander seed extract lowered blood sugar by 4 mmol/l in 6 hours, an effect similar to that of the blood sugar-lowering drug glibenclamide (3).
A similar study found that the same dose of coriander seed extract lowered blood sugar and increased insulin release in diabetic rats compared to control animals (4).
Usage:
Take five drops under the tongue or in juice/water as needed. Rub on face and hands; add to hair shampoo.
