The soapnut is a small miracle of nature. Currently, there is no other natural detergent raw material that combines so many benefits.

The saponin that is contained in the shells of these soap nuts is:

natural washing active with convincing washing and cleaning power

has a natural softening effect and makes linen soft
smoothes textile fibres and thus facilitates ironing
100% biodegradable
reduces the amount of soap and surfactants in the product

From fruits to detergents

The saponin that is so valuable for our products comes from the shells of soapnuts from northern India. On the slopes of these mountainous areas, the soapnut grows wild in large numbers and is accessible to everyone. Rudolf Bund, the owner of AlmaWin, travelled to these regions in 2013 for the nut harvest to see for himself.

How does it work? Ripe fruits fall to the ground and just need to be collected and dried. Harvesting the fruit provides an additional source of income for local farming families and supports their economic autonomy. At the same time, the natural vegetation is preserved. Trees are not cut down, they are valued. This is good for climate protection and prevents soil erosion. Moreover, it is not necessary to establish a plantation to meet the demand.

In the beginning, AlmaWin also experimented with soapnut shells. However, it quickly became apparent that the clean shells did not meet the stringent requirements of the company itself, but also of consumers in terms of ease of use and reliable cleaning performance. The really good cleaning ability of soapnuts needs support, because soapnut shells do not have the function of softening water, which leads to poor washing results with high water hardness. It also can't bleach, which is especially important for stains and white linen. So AlmaWin did intensive research and finally came up with a solution: soapnut extract.

Saponin as such

Sustainable saponin extraction in India

For sustainable production, it was important that the saponin from soapnuts was extracted directly in India. This move means that only the concentrated extract is exported to Germany and not the vast quantities of shells. This saves CO2 during transport and creates more jobs for local people. We found a partner who specialized in using natural substances. Together with this partner, AlmaWin was able to obtain certification and implementation of saponin extraction in India.

Suitable for allergy sufferers

Since then, soapnut extract has been successfully combined with our proven organic formulas and provides only benefits: 100% reliable, natural cleaning action, less consumption of soaps and surfactants made with palm kernel oil. Very good skin tolerance is also confirmed by the German Allergy and Asthma Association (daab), which is particularly important for sensitive skin and allergy sufferers.
