Why buy
Ceylon Kokonati Organic Unpasteurized Royal Coconut Coconut Water is a refreshing drink that is easy to get addicted to. It has a beautifully fresh aroma and taste, and tastes absolutely amazing ice cold. It also perfectly complements cocktails and mocktails with tropical flavours.
This absolutely organic coconut water comes from wild grown trees (no genetically grown palm trees) and contains no added additives or sugar. How it is collected and bottled is described below. It is not a concentrate. It is an exceptional drink, so its price corresponds to its quality.
What is single origin or "single origin"?
This means that the royal coconut water comes from one geographical area(as opposed to water taken from several countries around the world and then mixed together = a common practice of cheap coconut water).
The fact that Ceylon Kokonati coconut water is "single origin" means that the consumer's taste buds have a more consistent experience, from batch to batch. It is almost impossible to achieve an absolutely consistent taste without losing the natural flavour of the drink. This is especially the case when the coconut water for the production of one drink is taken from different locations.
Royal coconut in short
- The Royal Coconut (Cocos nucifera, var. aurantiaca) is a variety of orange-coloured coconut native only to Sri Lanka, where it is known as Thæmbili (Sinhala: Thæmbiliතැඹිලි).
- It has less sugar content than regular coconuts.
- The Royal Coconut, which is the premier or "king" of coconuts in terms of water content, is full of electrolytes, refreshing, rejuvenating, healthy and delicious.
- Royal coconut water contains electrolytes close to blood plasma.
- Sri Lanka boasts a larger area under royal coconut cultivation than any other country in the world and since royal coconut trees grow in Sri Lanka with little or no human intervention, no fertilizers or pesticides are used in their cultivation.
- Natives love coconut water for its ability to replenish physical energy and prevent dehydration.

How is the royal coconut different from the regular green coconut?
And why should we drink water from it?
The royal coconut is used exclusively as a drink, while the green coconut (cocos nucifera) has many uses, including the use of its kernel in food. Most coconut water brands use water derived from ripe green coconuts, while this is water derived exclusively from king coconuts.
Royal coconut water, which is popular for its refreshing taste, contains a more balanced sweetness compared to regular coconut water. It also contains electrolytes that are much closer to human plasma, making it an excellent rehydrant.
Although Sri Lankans consume the water from young green coconuts (of which there are more in Sri Lanka than in Thailand), the royal coconut is certainly the preferred choice on the island, across generations.
In terms of harvesting methods, the ripe green coconuts used by most leading brands are broken from the coconut palms using a long pointed stick. After breaking, they fall to the ground, where they sometimes lie for several days and bake under the hot sun before the water is leached out and the kernel is scraped out for consumption.
Royal coconuts, on the other hand, are harvested with much more care. At the optimum stage of ripeness, they are hand-picked by experienced climbers who climb the tree and use a specialised knife to cut off the clusters, which are then carefully lowered to the ground using a rope so as not to damage them on the way down.
Ceylon Kokonati bottles their royal coconut water on the same day the coconuts are harvested and delivered to their manufactory - so the coconut water is like "fresh from the tree". In addition, a glass bottle is used instead of UHT or plastic, which is such an advantage for water quality.
Royal coconut = electrolytes
Unlike the green coconut, the royal coconut does not have much meat unless it is too ripe when picked. As described in more detail above, royal coconuts are picked when they are still soft and have very little or no meat. It is in this state of ripeness, which is considered optimal, that coconuts have the highest electrolyte content.
Electrolytes are minerals such as calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphate, potassium and sodium that are present in blood, sweat and other body fluids. These are minerals that are so-called electric and carry a small electrical charge in our body. If you're not familiar with electrolytes and what they do to the body, they basically keep the body active and running throughout the day. They connect your cells, fluids and tissues to the communication line of the whole body and keep them running.
We lose electrolytes (especially sodium and potassium) during normal sweating as well as during exercise, illness, vomiting or diarrhea. The loss of electrolytes needs to be replaced truthfully so that the body does not cramp or become dehydrated and tired. If we do not replenish electrolytes daily, we are tired, lax and inactive.
Royal coconut water is a powerful rehydrant, given that its natural electrolyte levels are almost identical to those found in the human body. It is also an ideal hangover remedy and can be used as part of a refreshing fruit cocktail.
One bottle contains more magnesium and calcium than an orange, and more potassium than a banana.
Royal coconut and sugar
Royal coconut water in its natural form contains sucrose, fructose and glucose. However, due to their natural occurrence, it is possible that the content of these natural ingredients in Royal Coconut Water varies from coconut to coconut, even if they belong to the same cluster and grow from the same tree!
Like other natural beverages, royal coconut water has its own terroir. The natural constituents of the water from the royal coconut may therefore vary depending on the composition of the soil and the climate in which the tree from which the water was obtained grew.
Because of these factors, no sugar is added, as the Royal Coconut Water already contains plenty of natural sugar.
Beneficial for expectant mothers
Coconut is not only full of nutrients and electrolytes, but also contains excellent amounts of folate. Folate, also known as folic acid, plays a large role in the development of the baby in the mother's womb. During the first four to six weeks of pregnancy, the neural tube develops and forms. This tube eventually turns into the brain of the child. It also becomes the spinal cord, as well as the spinal column that protects the spinal cord.
Folic acid deficiency can cause damage to the baby in the womb. Why? It increases the risk of your child losing control of the bladder, bowels and becoming paralyzed on the legs. Therefore, you need to make sure you get enough folic acid, especially during the fourth to sixth week of pregnancy

The Ceilon Kokonati brand was established in 2013. In its range you can find a variety of high quality and affordable products made from sustainably produced coconuts, spices and tropical fruits.
The brand's name refers to the country that its founders consider home, Ceylon, Sri Lanka, where the coconuts for the coconut line of products are grown and processed. Ceylon, a British Crown Colony from 1815-1948, is now known as Sri Lanka, but the founders of the brand prefer to call it Ceylon because it definitely sounds more exotic and "pure Ceylon" is a brand in itself, reminiscent of the fresh unique essence of pure Ceylon tea. "Kokonati" on the other hand is Maori for coconut, so absolutely the most appropriate brand name for the most coconutty goodness ever.
The Ceilon Kokonati brand is run by a married couple. The female founding half is Mrs. Bûmika, which means Lady of the Earth in Sanskrit. Her great-grandfather was one of the pioneers of coconut oil pressing in Ceylon, making her the fourth generation of coconut oil presser. The male founding half, Mr. Mosqi, in turn, is originally a pure Ceylon tea grower.
Ceylon Kokonati is wholly owned and operated in New Zealand. Loose products from Kokonati uses several ethical brands that produce clean, organic food and beauty products. By selling Kokonati products, rural communities and traditional livelihoods are supported. All their products are ethically harvested and there is almost no waste in their production. Each part of the coconut is used in the production of a different product. Kokonati products are single-ingredient, packaged directly at the source, never mixed, single-species, non-GMO and vegan.
With a passion for organic, regenerative farming, sustainability and collective partnerships, Kokonati products come only from small farms and mills in rural villages in Sri Lanka. Each Kokonati product is produced in a specialized mill that produces only that type of product. Quality is therefore the best it can be, and every step of production is backed by the experience and knowledge of many generations. Ceylon is blessed with an abundance of healthy, exotic fruits, nuts, herbs and spices.
Ceylon Kokonati follows the principles of balanced living - live and let live.
They're trying to keep everything in even better condition than when they found it..
